FRACT/ONS Review
Troy Hutson has cleaned up his act for this release. After a shave and a haircut (see included art as evidence), this Collections release is a polished departure from this often ruff-and-tumble-voiced songwriter. "Before Autumn" uses subtle reverse sounds and uses stereo vocals to make a sort of soundscape that has been absent from past releases-- usually basement, one dynamic mic recordings. "Callous Driving Rain" falls in line with Hutson's traditional style, but it too has been given a spit shine. The guitar is mellow and the vocals supported by soft backing melodies. It's clear that Hutson's albums are going the way of maturity, shaping his harsh tunes into something generally more palatable.
Recommended for fans of Iron and Wine & City and Colour.
